Hi, I’m Lisa. In this post, I want to share a simple, friendly introduction to sound healing, what it is, how it’s experienced, and why so many people find it relaxing, balancing and deeply soothing.
What Do We Mean by “Sound Healing”?
Sound healing is a restorative practice that uses instruments such as crystal singing bowls, chimes, drums, and voice to invite the body and mind into a calmer, more harmonious state. Many people describe it as a “sound bath”; you’re not doing very much, simply lying down, listening, and receiving waves of sound.

From a holistic perspective, sound is thought to influence our bio-energy field (chakras, meridians, aura), and, through deep relaxation, support overall wellbeing. While experiences vary, people often report feeling lighter, clearer, more present, and more connected to themselves after a session.
A Helpful Metaphor: Your Body as an Orchestra
Imagine your body as an orchestra. On good days, every section plays in tune; on stressful days, it’s as if one musician drops the sheet music and everything drifts slightly out of harmony.
Sound healing acts like handing the music back, a gentle cue that helps the “players” (your breath, heart rate, muscles, and attention) settle back into a steadier rhythm. Nothing is forced; it’s an invitation to soften and re-tune.
How Do Vibrations Support Relaxation?
When you’re surrounded by sustained tones and soft overtones:
The nervous system can shift from fight-or-flight toward rest-and-digest, supporting a calmer heart rate and steadier breathing.
Muscles and fascia may release held tension simply because you feel safe enough to let go.
Many people notice a reduction in mental noise, less rumination, and more presence.
Some report relief from aches and stress-related discomfort, along with a general sense of emotional ease.
While everyone’s response is unique and sound healing isn’t a medical treatment, it can be a beautiful complement to a healthy lifestyle and other wellbeing practices you already love.
What Happens in a Session with Me

A typical session at Happy Mat Yoga looks like this:
Arrive & Settle – You’ll get cosy with blankets, cushions and an eye pillow if you like.
Gentle Grounding – A few minutes of breath awareness to meet the moment.
Sound Journey – I’ll play crystal bowls and other instruments in layered sequences, creating waves of soothing tones. You simply rest and receive.
Soft Landing – Quiet integration, optional journaling or tea to close.
You don’t need any experience; just comfortable clothing and an open mind. Many people find it especially helpful if they struggle to switch off during traditional meditation.
Why People Return to Sound Healing
Deep Rest: A chance to press pause, lie down, and let the body be held by sound.
Emotional Ease: An accessible pathway to release, clarity, and self-acceptance.
Gentle Regulation: Practical support for stress reduction and day-to-day balance.
Accessible for Beginners: No poses to “get right,” no performance, just listening.
A Kind Note on Wellbeing
Sound healing is not a substitute for medical care. If you have a health condition (including pregnancy, sound sensitivity, or a history of seizures), please let me know beforehand so I can offer guidance or suggest modifications.
An Invitation to Experience It
If you’re curious, the best way to understand sound healing is to experience it. Come as you are, get comfy, and allow the vibrations to meet you where you are. I’m excited to share this journey with you.
